We are normal!!

These are the exact words my ob-gyn used.

We had our first appointment in the land of all pregnant women and wow was it a change from our in-vitro clinic. We are used to being one of no more than a few couples in a waiting room that is quiet, has no more than a five minute wait and we are in and out in less than 30 minutes. My ob-gyn is downtown Nashville and is a practice of 7 women doctors. After being there it seems that 85% of the pregnant population of women in Nashville goes to my doctor. We were there for almost THREE HOURS. Thank goodness I was the first ultrasound appointment for the day or we would still be sitting there. The little one looked good with a heartbeat of 140 and weighed 7 ounces. We got to see its little stomach and kidneys. What we didn’t see is what is between the legs (or not between the legs). They were shut tight (all my friends say this is a sure sign it’s a girl). After that we talked to the nurse for awhile and waited on an examination room. And waited. And waited some more. We finally got one and saw my doctor. I had already undressed from the waist down for her to do some STD screen but she told me just to get dressed since I have had some complications with bleeding. Yay, score!! No one actually looked at my privates, that hasn’t happened in months.
The weird thing about this appointment was they have to treat you like a new pregnant woman since we haven’t been there pregnant. The problem with this is all the tests are done on someone that is a few weeks pregnant. We also got all this info on what foods and over the counter medicine to avoid which would have been helpful to know a few months ago. Now looking back it would have been helpful to have one appointment with my ob-gyn right at the beginning to get the normal pregnant woman info. Oh well, lessons learned. We go back in 2 weeks for the big 20 week scan of all the body organs and parts. We will hopefully find out the sex then. We are still thinking girl. Actually we have only begun to discuss girl names. This is an ordeal in its self. I want a Latvian name but so many American names are now being used there. So Karlis’s mom keeps suggesting American names. I asked for a baby book of Latvian names but they don’t make them there. Good thing we still have a while to name our little baby.

Recent food cravings: Sweet Tarts (I could live off of these things), Tea Cakes (the cookie version) and Sonic Lemon Berry Slush drinks

Strangest thing eaten in combination (so people say, it still sounds good to me): shrimp cocktail and a big glass of milk

You can try a book named - I think this is the exact title - Baby names around the world, it has names broken out by origin and I believe Lativa was there. Try amazon. Tracy Clay
